As we go through the month of May, students feel a lot of stress and anxiety about their exams. I am no exception. However, there are many ways to ease that stress and feel more prepared for semester exams, including those challenging EOC's (End-of-Course tests).
With the end of school now upon us, students across the state and country are preparing for the final days of testing and exams. This brief period can feel like weeks studying, classroom reviews and following through with course study guides. I would like to suggest three habits to develop during this period. I am certain you have heard of them from parents and teachers alike, but they are proven to work.
Good Sleep – Getting enough sleep is especially important for physical and mental health. Students should try to get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep, the recommended amount for teens. Better sleep can help your body and mind recover from stress and recall information more easily.
Eating Healthy – Having a good diet can help with more than just being physically healthy. It can also improve your mood and energy levels, enabling you to perform better during exams.
Breaks – Taking breaks during study sessions can help students recharge and maintain their focus. Even short breaks of 5 to 10 minutes can make all the difference and help you stay refreshed and avoid burnout.
Following these simple tips will help you to feel much better physically, and emotionally more at ease. It’s particularly important to remember that everyone copes with stress in different ways. With these tips students should test what works best for them. Prioritizing healthier habits will likely help you to face the exams with confidence and perform at a high level of success.
Good luck to everyone!
