In the Spring of 2020, LPA introduced flag football to the campus. Though the season was cut short with a record of 0-3 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, LPA’s Lady Greyhound Flag Football team’s success has competitors in St. Lucie County and the Treasure Coast taking notice.
In 2021, Coach David Perry returned with a full squad and posted a record of 4-8. It was at the end of that year he began to take inventory of the skill sets needed to succeed on the field. He began recruiting students who possessed those skills, regardless of their age, whether or not they were in middle or high school.
His homework was rewarded in the second full season of 2022. Starting slow and laden with a team of many seniors, Coach Perry finished with an 11-7 record and won the FHSAA 1A District 11 championship. That year, Jade Magrane became the first Lady Greyhound to receive a scholarship, and that was to Keiser University. The TC-Palm All Area team placed Ms. Magrane and Lahela Cornett on the First Team, Leah Murphy on the Second Team and Reese Williams as Honorable Mention. Ms. Magrane and Ms. Cornett were also recognized on the FSHAA All State 1A team, with Ms. Murphy receiving Honorable Mention honors.
This year, the Lady Greyhounds, despite having lost a lot of first teamers to graduation, and still battling the non-believing naysayers of other teams, came roaring back and again won the 1A District 11 title. And LPA recorded a ranking of #13 in Florida Class 1A. Recognition in TC-Palm’s All Area team and the FHSAA All State team have yet to be announced. However, we suspect they will again gain this well-deserved recognition.
It is worth noting that in this brief period of time, Coach Perry also recognized the need to build a reliable coaching staff. They now include Mr. Caleb Cornett as Defensive Coordinator and Mr. Jacob Pryor as Junior Varsity Coach.
