On Thursday, April 20th, the High School Student Council held its third blood drive of the school year. The Big Red Bus is the very prominent symbol and vehicle of OneBlood, a non-profit organization which seeks blood donations for disbursement to over 250 hospitals throughout the South Eastern United States, including Florida. In turn, these hospitals are able to insure the health and well-being of their patients.
On Thursday, May 11, the Big Red Bus was on campus, parked in front of the auditorium for the entire school day. Over 25 students and staff over the age of 16 volunteered to donate blood. Those donating received free drinks, snacks, pizza, and OneBlood T-shirts. Volunteers from the Student Council and Ms. Tamara Lindo, club sponsor, were at the auditorium all day to insure the event ran smoothly.
Previous blood drives were held in October and February of this school year. The Student Council plans to hold these events again next year along with its other activities. The next time the Big Red Bus arrives on campus learn about the blood donation process and consider participating, if you qualify. Your donation will definitely go toward improving the health, if not saving the life of another human being.
